Viscosity

 
This is an unusual freefall practical in that the aim is not to measure g but to measure the viscosity of a fluid, usually glycerol. This practical opens up topic areas not always covered at A level and is a great one for discussing, refining and even assessing practical techniques to reduce uncertainty.

The lab manual is likely to need some alterations to suit local conditions but is worth the effort.

There is also the possibility of offering this investigation as an extended project perhaps in the last half term of year 12? See 'viscosity as extended project' below.
